Monday Links

On Twitter (and Facebook) I share links each day to various stuff that I think is great and/or worth people’s time. But not everyone that comes here is on Twitter or Facebook, so I gather up the best of those links each Monday and post them here so everyone can get in on the fun. If you’ve missed any of the past Monday Links (or just want to waste some time), check the archive of posts here.

Edit: Two albums that are sure to be a large part of the soundtrack to the summer, the new one from MS MR and the new one from Small Black, are both streaming. Give ’em a listen. You can also still stream Mikal Cronin’s terrific new album and David Ramirez’s superb new EP, both of which come out tomorrow.

Spring didn’t feel totally right, but now it does: Heather from Fuel/Friends posted her spring mix last week. It is tremendous. You need it in your life. Go download it.

This piece of writing by Josh Ritter on a show he played the other night and his views on marriage equality is just one of the reasons he is the best. The below video of him playing ‘Apple Blossom Rag’ is another.

The AV Club mixed baseball and music last week, and it was awesome. Watch Houndmouth cover ‘Joe DiMaggio Done It Again’ and Basia Bulat cover ‘Glory Days.’ More of this, please.

Yours Truly hung out with Pickwick in their living room. Below is what happened.

NPR gives some sound advice for what to do when you are tired of the music you love.

The kids at LHS Room 125 continue to impress. Here’s a stunning video of Water Liars playing ‘You Work Days, I Work Nights’ in their classroom.

I don’t care how late I am with this, Thug Kitchen is my new favorite thing.

Hadn’t ever considered the idea of bands playing in abandoned grain silos before seeing the below video of Fort Frances playing ‘How to Turn Back Again’ in one. Now I want every band to do it.

Daughter shared the instrumental b-side ‘Drift’ with the world the other day. As you would expect, it’s gorgeous.

Shakey Graves, Wild Child and Marmalakes are going on tour together and went ahead and announced the news last week by posting the below video of a joint cover of The Kinks’ ‘Dead End Street.’ It goes without saying, but you need to be at this show if it stops in (or anywhere near) your town- check out the dates right here and grab a free sampler with tracks from each act right here. Enjoy.
