Monday Links

On Twitter I share links each day to various stuff that I think is great and/or worth people’s time. But not everyone that comes here is on Twitter, so I figured it makes sense to gather up the best of those links each Monday and post them here so that everyone can get in on the fun. Enjoy.

Natalie over at It’s Too Sunny Out Here makes awesome mixtapes every month. She just dropped (as the kids say) her November mix. It’s amazing. Seriously. Go get it right now.

I wrote during the summer about Bhi Bhiman’s ‘Guttersnipe,’ a tune that shows off Bhiman’s magnificent voice and storytelling abilities. Well, this past week American Songwriter debuted a gorgeous video for the track. This is yet another album to look forward to in 2012.

Another week, another great new video from Milo Greene. Teen Vogue premiered the video In the Open shot of the band playing ‘Silent Way’ in a cave. It’s…well it’s great.

Your roundup of Daytrotter sessions posted over the last week or so that are full of awesomeness: Jessica Lea Mayfield, Milagres, Apache Relay and Blessed Feathers. And probably some others I missed.

My buddy Heather over at Fuel/Friends posted her annual holiday mix, this year titled Midnight Clear. It’s full of redone Christmas standards and some fresh tunes about Christmas and winter and the season and such. You need to download it. As a preview, check out the Typhoon song ‘Merry Xmas Anyways,’ which leads it off.

I’ve had The Local Strangers’ version of Patty Griffin’s ‘Forgiveness’ in my brain since seeing them a few weeks ago. Just so, so good. (via All Cameras On)

Jessica over at New Music Collaborative is putting together a List of Lists, a project that has her collecting her favorite ‘best of’ lists from all over the internets. I’m listed on there (which is pretty cool, honestly) but the real reason you should check it out is cause the lists she’s collected are excellent and cover a variety of different music. There’s a lot to discover via those lists, believe me.

I’m a big fan of Sarah Jaffe, and it appears Denver’s Reverb is as well. They had the young songstress in for one of their Mile Marker Sessions and they posted wonderful results last week for you to listen to and download (for free).

There’s not a lot I love more than hearing directly from an artist what inspired them to write a song I adore. Seismec-Sound provided us with just that type of info last week, having Bryan John Appleby dissect the story behind one of my favorite songs of the last year, ‘Honey Jars.’  It’s a fascinating read.

Before Pickwick went off to make one of the albums I’m anticipating most next year they played a show at The Neptune in Seattle. Some awesome YouTube user shot the whole show, featuring some new jams, and posted it for your enjoyment. Go watch it- they are going to be huge.

I leave you this Monday morning with two videos of Bon Iver and Sarah Siskind doing ‘Lovin’s For Fools,’ a song originally done by Siskind herself. During Bon Iver’s 2008 tour they covered the song to close their sets most nights, and for a few special dates Siskind actually joined the band on stage for it. The results, as you would expect, were unbelievable. I had long since forgotten about the collaboration but stumbled upon it again during some weekend YouTube browsing and promptly played it through about 10 times. Stunning stuff in both videos. Big thanks to Owen for the unplugged version. Enjoy.
