On Twitter (and Facebook) I share links each day to various stuff that I think is great and/or worth people’s time. But not everyone that comes here is on Twitter or Facebook, so I gather up the best of those links each Monday and post them here so everyone can get in on the fun. If you’ve missed any of the past Monday links (or just want to waste some time), check the archive of posts here.
UPDATE: Pickwick’s debut album, perhaps the album I’ve been most excited to hear in 2013, is now streaming on Soundcloud. Listen to it. Love it. NPR has a stream of the new Phosphorescent album. It is incredible and you should go there and take advantage of that stream ASAP. Oh, and in case you didn’t do so last week, you should really stream the magnificent new albums from Josh Ritter, Hey Marseilles and Rhye (and then buy them tomorrow).
Slowcoustic’s fantastic J.Tillman tribute wrapped up last week. Grab all the covers for free by going here.
The best site to pop up on the internet last week was One Star Reveiws of Great Albums, which, you guessed it, takes the best of the one star reviews on Amazon for classic albums. It’s beyond tremendous.
Saw an absolutely stunning set from Night Beds on Saturday night. This cruel tease of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Silver Springs’ was one of many highlights. (Also: can someone kidnap them, put them in a room and not allow them out until we get a full version? Thanks)
This piece by David Johnson-Igra about how advertising and click-bait is killing music journalism was one of the most interesting and depressing things I read this last week. Spot on stuff.
My goal this year is to remain a bit better/more organized with the music I like. To help with that I’ve created ongoing Spotify playlists with the albums and songs I’ve liked best this year and will (attempt to) keep updating those as stuff is released.
Seeing my friends The Local Strangers play a set on the beach at Doe Bay Fest this past summer was one of my favorite moments of the entire weekend. I’m extremely glad that this video of them covering ‘Forgiveness’ during that set has surfaced. Enjoy.
