Tyler Lyle released a fantastic 5-track EP titled Expatriates yesterday, a collection of songs, as Tyler says in his magnificent (as per usual) liner notes, meant ‘for the last few dark cold days of winter when the books are heavier, the thoughts are stranger, and the light is more foreign.’ The EP concludes with ‘Ithica,’ a 12-plus minute masterpiece full of beautiful turns of phrase and vivid, sweeping imagery that shows, once again, why Tyler Lyle is one of my favorite songwriters.
Expatriates is available on Bandcamp. Your last few days of this brutal season would sound much better with its songs as part of the soundtrack. Enjoy.
