‘I Don’t Know Where I Was Going With This’- Canasta

Reason #647 you should always go and see (and pay attention to) the opening band: sometimes they play a song so stunningly perfect that an overwhelming silence takes over a very sold out, very amped up room. That was the scene as the final notes of Canasta’s ‘I Don’t Know Where I Was Going With This’ disappeared inside Lincoln Hall in Chicago a few weeks ago as the band opened for Alabama Shakes. I love those kinds of moments at shows, and love them even more when they are wholly unexpected and involve the kind of gorgeous, soaring, orchestral pop like Canasta plays. Also, it’s totally refreshing when a crowd can just be quiet and let something like that happen. So, you know, it was a pretty much awesome moment all around.

Canasta released The Fakeout, the Tease and the Breather (from which ‘I Don’t Know Where I Was Going With This’ comes) in 2010, which you can give a listen to/buy right here (along with the rest of their offerings). Enjoy.
