‘Winter Solstice’- Cold Specks

Sometimes the only proper reaction after listening to a song for the first time is to sit in a stunned silence for a second or two before you mutter ‘Whoa…’ and hit repeat. Such was the story/reaction when I fired up ‘Winter Solstice’ by Cold Specks for the first time last evening. Al Spx’s raw, soulful voice and that haunting piano line are enough to stop you dead in your tracks, but it’s the quietly pounded drum and moments when horns, strings and a subdued gospel choir are added to the equation that bring the tune to a gorgeous new level.

Cold Specks will be releasing I Predict A Graceful Expulsion, their debut album, on May 22nd. Count me among those who can’t wait. Enjoy.
