Monday Links

On Twitter (and Facebook) I share links each day to various stuff that I think is great and/or worth people’s time. But not everyone that comes here is on Twitter or Facebook, so I gather up the best of those links each Monday and post them here so everyone can get in on the fun. If you’ve missed any of the past Monday Links (or just want to waste some time), check the archive of posts here.

NPR is now streaming the debut album from The Shouting Matches. It is messy rock & roll and it is excellent. NPR is also previewing the new album from Iron & Wine. Give them both a spin. Edit: The debut album from Folly & the Hunter is now streaming, too. It is a wholly enjoyable album that will make you happy. You should listen.

The gentlemen over at Wake The Deaf posted their latest covers mix last week. You’d do well to head over and download it.

Baseball is back! Aggie over at Brand New Kind Of made a fantastic baseball-centric playlist to celebrate its return. Give it a listen.

Also back? The National. Here’s ‘Demons,’ the (fantastic, as one would expect) first single from their forthcoming album.

Night Beds played ‘Borrowed Tune’ along the banks of Lady Bird Lake during SXSW last month. The folks from KXT and Art & Seek were there to film it. It’s real good. (And yes, my goal is to post a video of every single track from Night Beds’ brilliant record by year end.)

Speaking of Night Beds, the band recorded a couple of stunning covers for Aquarium Drunkard’s Lagniappe Sessions. You need to go download those ASAP.

Rolling Stone compiled a list of the 20 Best Clubs in America. Two of my favorites here in Chicago, Schubas and Lincoln Hall, made the cut, as well they should have. Check and see if any of your favorites join them on the list.

No big deal, just Rhye doing an a capella version of ‘Open’ at the Mullholland Drive overlook in LA.

In a victory for common sense, looks like we can’t resell our mp3’s.

Gorgeous video here of Lemolo playing a few songs acoustically on top of a parking garage in San Diego awhile back.

Funniest thing this week: Reasons My Son Is Crying.

Mike Clark stopped by for a session with the young folks of LHS Room 125 last week and we’ve already got the first video from it, that of the unreleased song ‘The Dreamer.’ Fantastic stuff here, kids.

We’ll end this week’s roundup with some video of Grand Hallway playing ‘Horses’ at the Fremont Abbey. Stunning. Enjoy.
