On Twitter I share links each day to various stuff that I think is great and/or worth people’s time. But not everyone that comes here is on Twitter, so I gather up the best of those links each Monday and post them here so everyone can get in on the fun. If you’ve missed any of the past Monday links (or just want to waste some time), check the archive of posts here. Enjoy.
NPR is streaming the forthcoming albums from Andrew Bird, White Rabbits and The Magnetic Fields. That should keep you busy for a bit.
This has nothing to do with music, but I’m overly excited that Opening Day for Major League Baseball is just around the corner. If you don’t already have a favorite team you should be sure to use this handy flowchart to pick one.
To stick on the baseball thing for one more second (but not really), the AV Club examines how entertainment (movies, music, etc) reporters could learn something from how baseball nerds report on and think about their sport. I think they absolutely nail what people are looking for/want in their entertainment writing (also, I love that they are showing some love to stat dorks),
Josh Ritter released a brand new EP of beautiful songs last week (which you should go get right here) and in celebration released a video for the song ‘Love Is Making Its Way Back Home.’ It’s 12,000 pieces of construction paper working together, and it is wonderful.
Sound on the Sound posted another video from their ‘In Black & White’ series, this time with the up and coming Deep Sea Diver. Check out the gorgeous footage below featuring ‘NWO’ and ‘You Go Running,’ and check out Deep Sea Diver’s brand new album right here.
Beirut released a brand new black & white video for ‘Vagabond,’ my favorite song from their latest album The Rip Tide.
Daytrotter posted stellar sessions last week from Kathleen Edwards and Bombay Bicycle Club. Be sure to give them both a listen.
A week or two ago I mentioned that I had never listened to Shakey Graves before. I was immediately chastised. The below video will make sure you don’t face a similar fate. First you’ll get the story behind the name, then you’ll get an incredible rendition of his song ‘Late July.’
Hey Rosetta! stopped in Boston and played a few songs in a music store for Sleepover Shows. Check out ‘Welcome’ below and then head over to Sleepover Shows for the other 2 songs in the set. I’m still unsure how they are not much, much larger here in the States. That needs to change.
If you’re looking for something to waste time arguing with your friends about, Paste’s list of ‘The 90 Best Albums of the 1990′s‘ will more than do the trick. There are a lot of problems with it (the retroactive importance being placed on Uncle Tupelo/Wilco being the most glaring), but in general it’s just a fun little thing to think about. Nice to see Beck’s Odelay do so well- that was probably my favorite of the decade (or Counting Crows’ August and Everything After). What was yours?
No better way to end this post than with a stunning new video and song from The Tree Ring. The video documents the intimate Hike-In Show they played for some very lucky fans last fall. Great, great idea and the new song sounds fantastic. Enjoy.
